A sewing planner for garment sewing and alterations

I realized recently that I needed a sewing planner/tracker/planner myself, so I made one just for garment sewists who need a little help keeping track of things!

I’m using mine to help me clear up my cluttered space. I’m tired of wasting time:

  • looking through my computer to find where I saved PDF patterns
  • wondering which shelf that particular pattern lives
  • having to take new measurements each time I go to make something because I lost the slip of paper I wrote my measurements on
  • forgetting something at the fabric store, then trying to scrounge around to see if I might be able to come up with an alternative because I didn’t make a list
  • making something from a pattern I’ve used before, and realizing that I’m not sure if I had made the necessary adjustments to that pattern or not

So I made a printable sewing planner that I use, and now you can use it too!

What makes this sewing planner different than other ones?

There are a few pages devoted exclusively to alterations. I’ve included:

  • A few pages of alterations tips, including an explanation of my 4-step fitting framework
  • The “order of alterations” – the order in which you make adjustments to your clothes matters, and I added this to the planner for you to have as an easy reference.
  • A page for recording your alterations, so you can easily apply what you did to a future similar item.

What is included in this sewing journal?

This is a 14-page planner for you to print at home – it’s a digital file, and nothing will be mailed to you. The pages consist of the following:

  • Cover page
  • Sewing machine maintenance page – keep track of when you last cleaned your machine and changed the needle
  • Shopping list
  • Pattern Inventory – includes a section to record where you keep each pattern
  • The basic process of my 4-step fitting system to help you approach your alterations
  • The “order of alterations” for easy reference, so you get the best results next time you go to alter something (the order of what gets altered makes a difference!)
  • Alterations record, to record your alterations process which you can then use for future reference
  • Pattern project plan – includes notes on what you would do differently if you were to make that project again, and if you marked your changes on the pattern
  • Female body measurement sheet
  • Male body measurement sheet
  • Female croquis design sheet
