Yes, you can have an organised small sewing space.
Maybe you live in an apartment with roommates, or perhaps you had a sewing room that’s now pulling double duty as a home office or virtual learning space and you had to rearrange things. You can make a small sewing space work.
I’ve seen sewing spaces in bedrooms, guest rooms. Or just a sewing machine on the kitchen table, and then you have to lug all your tools from elsewhere in your home, so you need whatever your are lugging your sewing notions in to be organised. And then there is making sure you have enough light, especially if you are only able to sew in the evening after work or the kids are in bed.
It’s much easier, faster and more enjoyable to sew when I’m not hunting for my tools or have to dig out notions and supplies from different corners of the house. So I thought I’d share some tips and recommendations for folks who love to sew in their small space.

Small sewing space lighting:
Ever had to rip out black thread from dark fabric without enough light? Not a fun time.
If your small sewing space needs more light, check out these LED lights which go right on your machine! No more unplugging lamps from elsewhere in the house to put next to your machine.
Storage solutions for small sewing spaces
Bring portable storage into your small sewing space when you need it
Having a dedicated portable organiser to house your most used sewing tools and notions will help you from feeling like you have to gather a bunch of things before you sit down and sew. This is especially true if you are sewing in a space that serves other functions, like a kitchen table or shared home office.
A thread storage system and a fold out sewing basket will help keep everything you need handy, even if you have to pack it all away and clear the space when you're done. The key is to keep everything where you can easily find it, and also easily put it away after.

Keep your sewing project items all together
A designated basket for an in-progress project can help keep things neat and tidy! Consider a basket for your current project . When you put your fabric, pattern, scissors and matching thread all in one spot, you don't have to go and find all the things when you pick up a project again.
Permanent, but small sewing space? Go for vertical storage
If you have a corner of a room with wall space above you, you can hang up some sewing tools.
Here is a picture of my sewing table. I have a kitchen bar with hooks intended to hang things like soup ladles; but I use mine for scissors, rulers and tape measures instead. This also doubles up as a way to keep scissors safely away from little ones.
If you have more small space sewing storage suggestions, I'd like to hear about it in the comments.
