Do you have a pile of clothes in the back of your closet you don’t wear because the fit just isn’t right?

  • Do you try on lots of clothes while shopping, just to leave a lot of them behind because it’s hard to find something that fits you well?
  • I know what it feels like to try on 10 pairs of jeans and not find one that fits well and feels comfortable.
  • I’ve also sewn clothes that just didn’t work out because the pattern just wasn’t made for my proportions.
  • You know how to use a sewing machine, but tackling clothing fit is another ball game.
  • Maybe you were drawn to sewing because you wanted to be able to fix and change your clothes, but don’t know what to do – there are no instructions for alterations!

DID YOU KNOW?

Clothing sizes are based on a series of averages, and, well, we don’t all fit into the same mold.

IMAGINE…

  • If you knew how to transform clothes you already have and make them fit like they were custom-made for your body – with just a few tweaks.
  • No more trying on tons of clothes just to hand them back to the shop associate and leave empty-handed.
  • If you had a better grasp of which clothes would fit your body better in the first place.
  • Having a closet full of clothes that fit you, just the way you are.
  • Understanding WHY it can be hard to find clothes that fit, (and using that knowledge to work WITH your body, instead of against it).

  • My four-step fitting framework so you’ll be able to create an action plan for making clothes fit better
  • The “order of alterations” – adjusting clothing needs to be done in the right order – I have a straightforward way of tackling this
  • The most commonly used alterations
  • Learning what clothes and alterations work best on your unique body

…and you’ll walk away with the ability to

  • transform clothes you already have in your closet that you aren’t wearing much into your new favorites
  • Have an easier time buying ready-to-wear clothes because you’ll have a better idea of what you can change to fit you
  • Gain a better understanding of fit, which you can then apply to the next clothes that you make.
  • Stop wasting time and money buying or making clothes that don’t fit you well, that you don’t feel good in.

For the price of a couple of trips to a tailor, you can gain the skill to do that work yourself to fit your body, your way, your style.

Elise Chase-Sinclair
Testimonial from an alterations workshop

Hello! I’m Elise.

I’ve always had an interest in fashion and ended up studying costume. Worked as a costumer for theatre and TV, and had a job for a while as a garment fit technician too.

Along the way, I’ve made or altered clothes for many different bodies – actors, singers, dancers, and alterations for local folks in my town.

While I worked as a fit technician I really got to understand how clothes fit the body and what can be done to resolve fit issues. It was here that I would try dozens of pairs of jeans on myself to test the fit, and got frustrated that very few would fit me well because my waist-to-hip ratio was different than what the jeans were cut for.

Once I started my sewing blog and immersed myself in the online sewing community, I realized that only a few people were really talking about fit. Also felt like a lot of folks love to hate alterations – but this is where you get things to fit you, your style.  Getting the right fit takes some practice, but once you know what works for you, you can repeat the process on similar items fairly quickly.

Since I didn’t see a lot of folks talking about fit, I decided that this is where I want to focus my efforts. It can be really discouraging to want to have clothes that fit, and end up frustrated shopping or making new clothes when nothing works out.

I know I can help folks out who have a hard time shopping or making clothes due to fit, and that’s why I’m creating this program.

By the end of the program, you will:

  • be able to rework those clothes collecting dust in your closet to be your new favorites
  • love getting dressed each day with your perfectly fitting wardrobe
  • have a much easier time clothes shopping because you’ll know what you can easily alter to your own physique

FAQs

I’m a beginner sewer. Will this be too advanced for me?

This course assumes that you know how to use a sewing machine, and will not go over basic sewing machine operation. However, if you have sewn basic projects such as bags, masks, aprons, and pajamas, you have enough skill to use this course.

I will offer lots of sewing tips along the way for things like stitch length and needle selection, but I won’t go over how to use a machine.

I see the course will have content spread out over 6 weeks. How long after can students access the material?

During the 6 week course, an email is sent out once a week with links to the videos.

There is a downloadable workbook that gets sent to students automatically upon enrollment as well.

Students will be able to access course materials for a year at minimum.

Is this course just for women?

The course is open to anyone. However, most techniques will reference a female form and we won’t cover specific menswear techniques.

The course is suitable for anyone who wants to learn more about clothing fit on a female figure.

Will you cover adjusting sewing patterns?

No, this is not a pattern-making or patterns skills course.

That is why I’m including a bonus course, Sewing Pattern Success! This 3 week course cover the basics of altering sewing patterns to your body.

The combination of these courses will give a solid understanding of clothing fit. By learning more about fit, you will be armed with more skills to help your “me-made” clothes fit you better.

Will this course help me start an alterations business?

If you are looking to offer sewing as a service, this course will help you upskill to be able to offer more alterations. However, I do not cover anything business-related here, just sewing and fitting skills.

This sounds time-consuming. How much time do I need to set aside a week?

While I’m making this as comprehensive as I can, all the lessons are broken up into smaller segments that make it easy to find what you are looking for.

You have access to the videos for at least 1 year, so you can take your time!

Even if you just have 1-2 hours a week for a few weeks, you will make progress towards the perfectly fitting wardrobe of your dreams.

I’m not sure if my sewing level is right for this course.

If you know your way around a sewing machine, have made some easy projects and understand words like “seam allowance”, you have enough skill to do this course.

Some of the techniques are easier to do than others. Start with the easier ones and work your way up. This program is great for adventurous beginners who want to learn more about clothing fit.

Keep in mind that the price of the course is about the same as a few trips to a tailor.

The goal of the course is to start learning alterations by updating what you already have – think about the course investment versus the cost of unworn clothes in your closet. You might be able put off buying new clothes if you can breathe new life into old ones.
